Jurtschitsch says about this wine that it’s “in an Adam and Eve costume. Unadorned, unfined, and unfiltered… a slightly more adventurous alternative to our classic Grüner Veltliner ‘Urgestein.’” This doesn’t mean this is freaky GV juice, but rather, tilts more toward the natural wine movements of Burgenland and Styria in terms of pulling back on the pale green, razor-thin, put-ice-cubes-in-it types of Grüners. High-altitude vineyards from around the village of Langelois, destemmed, ferment and élevage in natural oak barrels of between 500-1000L in size: all of this means it’s a very traditional wine and one that shows white stone fruit notes, a pleasing freshness, with the mineral structure of the schist soils of the Kamptal underneath.
