Usonia is Julia & Alex Alvarez-Perez, a duo who met working in NYC restaurants over a decade ago and got bitten by the winemaking bug; after studying and working in Austria and Australia, they returned to their native East Coast to set up making high-quality wines in the Finger Lakes region of NY. The Shaw vineyard is a well-loved source of organically farmed vines on the western shores of Seneca Lake; their 2021 bottling is dry, beautifully textured, and packed with dark green, hard herb notes. It’s an excellent entry in a category of wine that can and should be world-class - we think Usonia is making some of the best in the state.
