Christian Tschida is mercurial, a natural winemaker who is private about his vineyards and a little bit shy in person and probably way too famous in Copenhagen and Barcelona. But underneath this sort of introverted-but-famous thing rests a real vigneron, uncompromising in his vision for gentle but evocative wines. Tschida's bottles are clearly expressive of his continental Burgenland climate, but he has a real hand for weightless, ethereal renderings, while also maintaining some structure. Tschida is an artist, and it's a bit hard to explain 'Kapitel I' - a meeting of the Bordelaise Cabernet Franc and the native Burgenland red variety, Blaufränkisch - it's a red cherry, ruby-colored, piquant and lightly flinty number, two roads converging on one path in the woods, or however the Frost poem goes. We adore this wine, one that is mysterious and deserving of quiet attention.
