Juan Ledesma is a soulful musician-winemaker, working in the oft-overlooked southern region of the Valle del Itata. 'Nitanto' is a blend of 50/50 Cinsault and Pais, hailing from 50–70 year-old own-rooted, bush-trained, dry-farmed, organic vines... The vines are planted on granitic soils; their roots extend some 10 meters in depth. The plants to which Ledesma has access are sort of magical, given the way Itata's been ignored by commercial winemaking for long decades. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, resulting in only around 10% alcohol—joyful, expressive red wine that's easy to drink. Heavy Chilean Malbec this isn't!
