Joe Swick is over a decade into his eponymous artisanal winemaking project in Oregon; focusing on sourcing grapes from various quality vineyards all across the Willamette Valley and occasionally in the Columbia Valley in neighboring Washington. His rendition of Aligoté comes from the Moeller Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, and is a case study in how pretty and pure this variety can be in the PNW instead of its native Burgundy: lemon curd, marzipan, frosty rocks, velvety texture, but a great line of acidity also. A terrific bottle for sitting on a dock watching boats go by, or having a picnic near a forest, or a prosciutto and melon-filled lunch. A beaut!
