Grenanico is maybe one of Sicily’s most interesting grape varieties: you can see in the etymology of the word’s name—Greca, or Greek—that it’s a variety brought to the island by the Greeks some 2000 years ago; this links it with Greco in Campania and Garganega all the way to the north of Italy in the Veneto. You’ll find green, herby notes here, with a Mediterranean twang, but no shortage of golden and ripe tones that come from being drenched in this island’s sun. Dry, light-to-medium-bodied; it’ll make you want to pick up a little harp, swing by your local fish market, dress in gladiator sandals only ’til the end of summer.
