Go ahead and try to pronounce the cuvée name on this wine, we dare you. ‘Hurluberlu’ means roughly a looney, crank, or eccentric; we find it nearly impossible to pronounce in French. Winemaker Sébastien David gained this nickname from his village co-inhabitants, as he makes Cabernet Francs in this rather traditional appellation in a way the neighbors find very strange. Relentlessly fresh, crunchy, and vibrant, this wine comes from 20 different vineyard parcels and is made in something of a ‘nouveau’ style, utilizing carbonic maceration to emphasize primary flavors instead of Cab Franc’s deeper structures. Zero SO2, zero BS, zero intellectualism here. Just drinkiness and weirdo pleasure.
