In the southeastern corner of Sicily, province of Syracuse, and hidden in a rural and little-known village called Noto, Salvatore Marino crafts just a few simple wines that gently and happily convey his surroundings: bush vines, plenty of wind and sun, lemon trees with fruit dangling everywhere. Golden yellow in the glass, with intense perfume of said lemons, herbs, and a touch of flowers, this Catarratto is fresh, nicely textured, with a clear sapidity making it all worthwhile. A perfect table wine for salads with tomato and mozzarella, raw seafood dishes or escabeche, fish tacos, or fresh ricotta served with herbs and toasty bread. Marino’s wines make us want to escape and eat and drink in Noto forever.
