Roberto Henríquez was radicalized into natural winemaking by Loire Valley legend René Mosse; after a lot of work abroad and agronomy studies, he returned home in 2015 to start his own natural winemaking project in Chile. Henríquez’ focus is on recovering the traditional viticulture in the south of his home country—the cooler-than-average appellation of the Bio Bío river valley is the underpinning that helps him do so. This skin-contact white wine is equal parts Sémillon, Corinto, and Moscatel - dry, with delicate extraction. ‘Rivera del Notro’ isn’t a bruiser of an orange wine but instead is tense, tightly put together, with medium body and striking minerality on top of its dried mandarin and flower notes. Natural wines from Chile are still a steal in terms of price-to-quality ratio, and Henríquez’ work deserves attention regardless of how affordable it is!
