Pierre-Henri Rougeot is something of our Pinot Noir hero, or at least one of them in the shop. Whole-cluster ferments, very little SO2 application and never during fermentation or too early in the wine's life, great farming... This cuvée, called 'the plants of the forest,' is located on the mid-slope of the village of Comblanchien (Côte d'Or). There's powerful limestone terroir here, giving this bottle a unique structure, a beautiful backbone, and a lot of concentration, helped not a little by the vines of more than 50 years of age. This isn't froofy Pinot Noir for your Netflix binge: it demands time, food, contemplation, maybe a book of slightly intimidating fairy tales.
