Panduro is a new project on Mallorca by young natural winemaker Ibon Apezteguia. Ibon’s work primarily finds him sourcing vines from the island, but in this special case, ‘Cuvée de en Medio’ comes from a vineyard he maintains on the Spanish mainland, in the southeastern region of Murcia. Murcia is famed for Monastrell, but there’s very little in the way of natural wine there — Ibon’s special little old-vines plot, at 800m of altitude in the Valle Hoya de Torres, gives rise to this, therefore, very unique bottling. Jeweled and bright in its red tones, it has beautiful perfume and a lot of elegance. It’s a far less baked and dark version of Monastrell than you might guess could come from southern Spain—a sign of Ibon’s talent and what he can render from good old vine material.
