Oriol Artigas, an Alella native and trained enologist, started his project of making non- interventionist wines in 2011. He works about 12 hectares in total, mostly of old vines in what are essentially the vineyards of Barcelona, located just north of the city along the coast of the Mediterranean. La Bestia Blanca is made from Pansa Blanca (the local name for Xarel.lo), hand-harvested and skin macerated for about a week before pressing to tank. There’s a subtle oxidative quality to the wine, mixed with the characteristic salinity for which Pansa Blanca is known. Delicate, but complex and layered, with light tannins and a mineral finish.
