Olek Bondonio is one of the rare highly independent producers in Barbaresco, an appellation dominated by big names and big money. He farms his parcel of famed Roncagliette organically, with a nice little piece of 50 year-old vines. This is the powerhouse wine of Olek’s domaine, with a palate saturated in black fruit and a highly mineral core. Olek is never scared of ripeness in his wines, and indeed recent vintages have forced the hand of many Piemonte producers of Nebbiolo, but this bottling never loses its sense of freshness or drinkability. Drink now or cellar for many years to come.
