The first time we tasted this bottling from Nikolas Juretic a few years ago, it stopped us in our tracks, and we knew he would be an important new producer to watch from Friuli. Tending just two hectares in the village of Cormons of Friuli, he’s in the heart of some of the best viticultural territory of this special wine region, where the Slavic world and the northern Italian world meet. ‘Toc di Montone’ is Nikolas’ first single-vineyard wine, from a plantation of Tokaj Friulano planted in 1968 on a hill called Quintana. This vineyard gives up a profound white wine, with a beautiful balance between density and aromatics, elegance, minerality, and a sense of both the oceanic soils beneath and the forest that surrounds. We treasure this wine.
