The young Dogliani producer Nicolas Altare is from a family estate of many, many generations, but it wasn’t until he got encouragement from his notable mentor, Barolo producer Ferdinando Principiano, that he started to finish up the longstanding family contracts to sell all of their fruit to other producers. As of 2015, Altare has been producing his own wines, and the guidance of Principiano is clear in the wine: this is a graceful and elegant Dolcetto, which can sometimes be a simple or just a hearty purple wine. This has a beautiful open nose, a nice dark core, and a long presence on the palate, with fine structure. A lovely Piemontese red and a fine version of the variety.
