Mylène Bru farms a lovely, organic four hectares of vines on Mediterranean scrubland, just north of the city of Sète in the Languedoc. It's one of our great hopes that wine-interested folks will one day peel their eyeballs away from only the regions of northern France (Burgundy, Champagne, the Loire, the Jura) and realize that there's a great deal of beautiful wines being made in "other" France, i.e. in the south on the Mediterranean. Carignan is one of the great varieties on France's southern shores, and if you can tame its tannic structure as Bru is able to do, you're rewarded with her full-bodied, satisfyingly deep red wine, with black and red fruits, clear cassis-type liqueur notes, and the garrigue for which these shores are so famous. With nearly five years in bottle now, 'Rita' is in an amazing spot... For fuller-bodied red drinkers, this wine is really a stunner!v
