The way that we have been bombarded online of late with press pieces and warnings about Alcohol is So Bad For Your Health has made us a bit resistant to contemporary non-alcoholic beverages and products. We are also lovers of nature’s normal non-alcoholics, you know, like juice and tisanes and water. That’s why we were so impressed when we encountered the work from Muri, producers of complex N/A bevs hailing from Copenhagen. This ‘Fade to Black’ sparkling red wine alternative is made from real fruit and plants, no osmosis or chemical processes: fermented currants and chamomile kefir are the base, then foraged fig leaves and pine are infused in, finally balanced with a touch of caramel & malt. This all sounds weird but it is truly delicious; delicate, spiced, zippy and refreshing. We drank it with pork sausage and turnips and it was just so tasty as a pairing.
