Giulia Masiero's 'Campo da Calcio' Merlot is such a great argument for this Bordelais grape having migrated its way over into Venetian territory. Masiero handles it lightly in this bottling, macerating it for only around four days, doing a gentle press, and fermenting the whole thing in concrete. It's Merlot that was planted by her father on very calcareous soils, however, so there's a mineral underpinning that's fun to see in this variety often associated with only richness and weight. Masiero is a talent; we drink her whenever we can get her.
