Only 143 cases were made of Stoumen's gorgeous single-vineyard Carignan, a variety that doesn't get nearly enough attention in the United States, specifically in California, where it's got a long history. 'Long Élevage' means this wine spent 2.5 years in barrel, longer than many American producers will (or can) let their wines evolve before bottling. The wine has distinct dusty tannins, coming from the Venturi vineyard, but the additional aging gave it a richer and less rigid structure. We liken this to a Cali version of a cru Beaujolais: easy drinking and food-friendly, with great acidity.
