We are always so pleased when a wine region known as Classic but feels maybe also Stiff shows us a bottle that isn’t all suit-and-tie. This 100% Merlot from the northern stretches of the Gironde makes us dream a bit of what Bordeaux might’ve been like without all those centuries of mercantile power and founding of aristocratic châteaux. It’s genuine, woodsy, speaking of a more humble agricultural side to the region. It’s fresh, easily drank, with blackberry bramble, blue and soil-driven notes, and very pretty, fine tannins. Best of all, Maison aux Lorettes’ vines are farmed biodynamically, and this wine has zero SO2 added without a lick of instability. Just a treat.
