Agrícola Macatho is the project of couple Macarena del Río and Thomas Payrare, a great example of French and Chilean wine culture as intertwined, as well as showing the real promise that serious caretaking of old Chilean vineyards can give. This cuvée, ‘Touch Tierra,’ is made from centenarian pie franco País grown in the Itata Valley on granite-clay soils. Light in body, but deeply savory, there’s notes of smoke, black plum and blackcurrant, minerals, and leaves (in the best way). Romantic wine made with great vineyards and very little interference from hands.
