Like many great New Zealand producers, winemaker Rob Burley found his place in the wine world after working for a number of great like-minded producers abroad. Though Rob worked vintages in NZ, France and America, it wasn’t until he moved to Australia and started to work for Bill Downie and Patrick Sullivan that the concept for Luta Wines was born. After doing his time working for Bill and Patrick, Rob decided to move back to New Zealand, taking over an old organic estate and winery in Nelson just prior to the 2019 vintage. His 'Shadow' Pinot Noir is now on its second vintage, showing bright plum, raspberry and rhubarb, plus dried herbs and a hint of spice from a portion of whole-bunch fermentation. Definitely an up-and-coming winemaker to watch!
