A barrel-fermented, deep rosé of old vine Carignan from Mendocino county, fashioned by the exciting young natural producer Pete Bloomberg of Llewelyn. The components for this wine come from two different vineyard sources, one Carignan from the Testa Vineyard in Calpella, and 1/3 Chardonnay from Lolonis Vineyard in the Redwood Valley. Half the Carignan was macerated for a day and pressed into rosé; the other half was free-run from a one-week, whole cluster maceration. The wine was fermented together aged in a 600L puncheon. Pete says, long story short, this is a dark rosé “I should’ve labeled as red.” Notes of beets, hibiscus, blood, wet stone, this is not California wine for tour buses and patio pounding. Pete wants you to think. You oughta listen to him.
