Domaine de L'île Rouge is names after an old nickname for the island of Madagascar, where winemaker Antonin Jamois spent several years of his life as, variously: an organic shrimp farmer, a hotel manager and a free-diving fishing instructor. Once he and his wife had their first child, though, they moved back to Jamois' native Bordeaux and set up shop making spectacular organic wines that buck the often-rigid Bordelaise tradition. This cuvée, 'Confluence,' is a blend of organically farmed Merlot and the rare grape Castets. Rich, smooth, and layered with dark fruits, with an earth quality that adds great dimension.
