Dominique Lucas is a great winemaker in the mountainous region of Savoie, on the French border with Switzerland. Lucas bought and began Les Vignes de Paradis in 2008 and has farmed the estate biodynamically since then; the focus varieties are those native to the region, but Lucas renders some cousins from other regions, too, like Savagnin from the not-too-distant Jura. This bottling was aged for seven months in concrete eggs, a technique that always puts us in mind of another wonderful and sadly late Savoie vigneron, the groundbreaking Dominique Belluard. Elegant, textural, and supple Savagnin, tasting more like the mountains than like the often rustic or intense examples from the Jura.
