100% Cabernet Franc from a famous vineyard site, or lieu-dit, in Saumur-Champigny named 'Les Poyeaux.' (Clos Rougeard, that blue-chip catnip producer that has in recent years become super famous, is the label from which most French wine heads will recognize the vineyard site.) Vignerons Sophie and Clement Maire-Kurdziel render this vineyard into a different version than Clos Rougeard's aristocratic one: this bottling is strikingly fresh, powerfully mineral, lean and almost linear on the palate; nor is it particularly oaky. Really a very special bottle of wine, one that deserves to be open throughout the course of a meal, maybe served with roasted red peppers, a tagine or kebabs.
