Laurence Réal and Pablo Bastias hail from opposite corners of the world, but have come together to fashion some of the more exciting wines and ciders we've tasted from the southern hemisphere in recent years. A native of the Basque country in France, Laurence wound her way to the Colchagua Valley in Chile and, subsequently, into Pablo’s orchards and vineyards. 'Jardin Secret' is a 'secret garden' mix of red varieties that are often seen in the Colchagua valley, bounded by coastal hills to the west and the foothills of the Andes to the east. Laurence says of her wines in Chile's more conservative north: "[They are] bright, earnest, smoky, mixing particular rusticity with purity of fruit; this is how it was always meant to be, it just got lost along the way."
