A charming direct-press blend of Chardonnay and Grenache Gris from stellar but little-known (at least in the U.S.) southern Rhône vigneron Nicolas Renaud; this wine is sourced from biodynamic vines on limestone/granitic soils. Fermented with native yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and concrete, it’s fresh but also tense, properly ripe but also not over-the-top: green pear, citrus rind, tangy stuff, notably saline. Grenache Gris, the rare pink variant of the Grenache family, shows up by adding just the tiniest touch of pink florals. A great bottle to welcome spring, or, as the cuvée name would have it, on any given Sunday.
