Tavel is the great French rosé appellation that still remains something of a secret, unless you've been bitten by the hype bug for L'Anglore and Eric Pfifferling. We love vigneron Nicolas Renaud's iteration of Tavel (indeed a student of Pfifferling)—fresh, bright bright red fruits like strawberry, raspberry, cranberry—framed with a touch of spice. The palate, supple and refreshing, has depth without ever losing vibrancy, which is really the thing we love about real natural winemakers, but it's not all hot southern features here - there's a mineral structure that balances all that red fruit. It's just an energetic and also refined wine, where the ruddy cheerfulness and glossy candy of Cinsault unifies with the texture and substance of Grenache. Perhaps the flagship wine from this producer and sure to go quite quickly.
