It’s rare to have a real family house in the Côte des Blancs in Champagne, given that most of the vineyards in this special zone for Chardonnay are owned by massive houses and factory-style producers. It’s rarer still that they farm biodynamically, and that for over 20 years. The ‘Longitude’ cuvée from Larmandier-Bernier is built from various vineyard holdings the family has across all the most important villages in the region (Vertus, Oger, Avize, Cramant), and it represents a really great value from this accomplished domaine. Grassy meadow, little tiny flowers, and a truly salty and bright palate speaking of the chalky soils that are the hallmark of the region. The estate calls it “pure, mineral, and direct.” Worth your time far more than the famous brand names in Champagne, on which you can easily spend the same money and be nonplussed.
