La Grange aux Belles is a cadre of friends making wine in Anjou—a circle of five of them, in fact, led by Marc Houtin—who have been collectively applying organic farming, multiple passes in vineyards at harvest, near-obsessive sorting before fermentations, etc., on their now around 15 hectares of vineyards across the Coteaux de l'Aubance appellation. 'Cuvée 53' is a Cab Franc that isn't smoky, meaty, or rich like many others in the Loire can be, but still has a nice intensity on the palate along with its beguiling notes of plum and strawberry preserves, rosemary and soil, and a little bit of cocoa, too. Pretty, velvety palate and a sense of lightness are also on display, too. These guys make great table wines or entry-level bottlings, but this slightly more elevated selection of their best Cab Franc vines across their holdings absolutely shows the quality jump. Really nice stuff from a nearly 20 year-old natural wine outfit.
