La Gazzetta is the new-ish project from winemaker Trish Nelson, founded in 2018. Nelson was raised in Australia but eventually transferred to her now much-loved home in the northern part of Lazio, around the Lago di Bolsena. Trish has learned from some of the more avant-garde producers in the last fifteen years or so in Italy, but there’s no note of weirdness or wildness in her work: just purity, an unmistakable freshness, while not being afraid of the structure of the central Italian varieties with which she works: Ansonica, Procanico, various local types of Malvasia, etc. This white of hers, ‘Bianco Trilli,’ is textural and substantial, but still manages to feel like a meadowlands good fairy made it. A white wine belonging entirely to the solstice, to Sundays on the river, to happiness.
