La Distesa is one of the benchmark producers for great Verdicchio in its spiritual homeland of Le Marche. They make pure, unfussy, clearly terroir-expressions of the variety; this entry-level wine from the winery called 'Terre Silvate' has a touch of Trebbiano blended in, which is a white variety common to central Italy and that adds nice weight and fresh fruit to Verdicchio's hallmark herbal, grassy character. Very nice middle ground for those white wine drinkers in your life who claim they only drink Chardonnay or only drink Sauvignon Blanc - it splits the difference between the varieties.
