The history of Malagousia, a grape native to Greece, is somewhat of a Cinderella story; once on the brink of extinction but now creating some of the most revered wines from the country. This husband and wife duo — Andreas Kontozisis and his partner Aphrodite Tousia — were some of the first producers to get organic certification in 1991 when they first began production. They do not use presses in the winery, but rather let gravity create free-run wines that are fermented with indigenous yeasts in cement. Together, they create something medium bodied, aromatic, and quite complex.
