Those who have been following Hiyu's work since around 2016 or '17 might recognize the name of the 'Scorched Earth' vineyard from which 'Áine' is drawn; it's in the desert stretches of the Gorge east of the town of Lyle, which means it's an intensely hot and volcanic site, more intense than the Hiyu home vineyards to the west. Áine delivers a mix of what winemaker Nate Ready calls 'the ephemeral magic of Southern Rhône Grenache on sand with the wildness and vibrancy of Nerello Mascalese on the upper slopes of Mt. Etna.'
