Tucked in the foothills of the Provençale mountains called Les Alpilles, Domaine Henri Milan is on its third generation and working on 40+ years of viticulture and winemaking. ‘Le Vallon’ is a nice introduction to the domaine, with a blend of the southerly French grape varieties making a little co-fermented intro to the area: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Nielluccio, all fermented and raised in concrete for additional freshness. Milan also makes some heavy-hitter higher-end reds and some fascinating whites, but we love this bottling for its ease and its nice testament to the freshness still possible in the mountainous, Mediterranean South.
