Gustavo Riffo is a young winemaker working on his family's farm in the Valle del Itata, at about 300m above sea level in the south of Chile with a Mediterranean climate. Riffo personally farms five hectares of vines for his own label, including these very old vines of Moscatel - 80 years of age, in fact, never irrigated and own their 'own roots,' meaning that the vines have never been planted / grafted on American rootstock, as is the case with the vast majority of vineyards currently around the world. The grapes were destemmed but fermented on skins inside of a clay amphora for nearly a year - this is a powerfully aromatic and layered white wine as a result. A great bottle to see some of the unique heritage of Chilean wine in this special valley.
