We adore Gérard Marula. He's from Touraine in the central Loire, he's maybe 6 foot 6", he's got a crooked grin and giant hands and makes unbelievably soulful and expressive Loire Valley natural wines. Most of Marula's production is red, so this veeeery rare Chenin Blanc from Gérard's cellar deserves its title: "Angel." It is a heartwarming white wine not afraid of alcohol and texture, presenting the argument that dryness and lightness are not the be-all-to-end-all for what makes a white wine delicious. A grand bottle; don't drink it in anything but excellent company.
