Ficomontanino - or, ‘little fig mountain’ - is a small, traditional estate located in Chiusi, in the province of Siena in the southernmost part of Tuscany, touching both Lazio and Umbria, a pocket where these three regions intermingle. Operated by winemaker Maria Sole Gemelli, who runs the farm’s mixed 50 hectares of natural vegetation, vineyards, other crops, and animals, ‘Noble Kara’ is a Sangiovese rosato, something fresh and pleasant for a late winter-into-early summer table. It’s got structure like a zippy light-bodied rosso, displaying the grape variety’s hallmark bright cherry juice, pomegranate, and beguiling mix of flowers and herbs. Be transported to central Italy with this one; there’s much more to the Mediterranean world than a spritz.
