Dorsal Wines is the winemaking team of Devin Alexander Myers and Jenna St. George, living and making négociant wines on the Mendocino coast on the Elk Ridge of California. ‘Orb’ is a 100% Grenache taken from a special vineyard site in the Sierra Foothills grown by farmer Suma Kaw; unfortunately it’s the first and the last of this wine from Dorsal we’re likely to see, since that vineyard is quite literally hours and hours away from their winery on the Mendo Coast. Catch this bottling now—with only three days of maceration on the skins, this Grenache is rosy, delicate, with an ephemeral sense of minerals and the high-elevation forest in which this variety was grown. It’s a testament both to the suitable terroir for this grape variety but also to the skillful hand of the maker in rendering something so evocative. Not your standard CA juice-bomb Grenache in any way.
