Perhaps the least-loved or sexy appellation in all of France, and one we ride or die for. When Corbières wines are good, as this one is, they intoxicate with an unusual mix of lilac, spice, cooked mushrooms and fresh leather or hide. Black wet earth, plums, and animal notes are woven together, even though the winemaking at this solid little winery is perfectly proper and clean. Old organic vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees, lush purple fruit, not too much tannin but not just juice either, velvety and not drying, gamey and not weird. It reminds you of a France from folktale, not from watches or perfume or skincare. Famous chef Eric Ripert once reviewed this bottle with: “I know that I am French, but I REALLY like zis wine!”
