Edmond Cornu makes traditional-tasting red Burgundies that aren’t part of the new guard, but rather, reflect very nicely the “lesser” appellation of Ladoix that this domaine is in. The village is right up against the fancy Grand Cru site of Corton, so often, the Pinot Noirs from this place sort of over-perform the fact that they’re only from a less famous village. This is the ‘vieilles vignes’ or old-vines bottle, a vineyard nearly a century old, and it’s full of structure, blackberry and dust, the more deep site of Burgundy.
