There are a lot of reasons why this wine doesn't make any sense: They'll tell you in northen Austria that Roter Veltliner is a bad grape; it makes clumsy wines compared to Grüner or Riesling. Ignoring this take, Martin Arndorfer purchased this very old-vines planting of Roter in a high-elevation parcel of a hallowed vineyard called Gaisberg, just to prove that the local variety is great if made correctly. Surely it's handled correctly here: this is a full-bodied, deeply textural white wine that's already got four years of age on it and could go longer. Pair with roast pork, stuffed vegetables, lobster. Just don't drink it on its own, as the power of it will be overwhelming if you're just looking for a glass of white wine!
