Montepulciano from a small natural producer in Abruzzo, in the smaller appellation of Rocca San Giovanni. Darker fruit, fuller body, around 14% alcohol, this is a bottle sure to please every traditionalist in terms of Italian red, but it's not spoofy and isn't made with makeup—just a more robust, dark expression of the grape. Great for tomato pastas made with guanciale, if cheek jowl bacon is a thing you're into.
