In Burgenland, central Austria’s sunny, windblown plains and lake region, there are three red grape varieties that matter: Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent, and Zweigelt. The last of these three is probably the least interesting in many peoples’ hands, but star natural winemaker Claus Preisinger has a real talent with drawing out the subtleties in this sometimes-blunt red grape variety. Notes of black pepper and woods, but with raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries too, this bottling reflects both the woodsy side and the fresh, lip smacking side of what natural wine in Burgenland can do. On the lighter-bodied side and takes a chill really well!
