Preisinger is one of the stars of Burgenland's rapidly-expanding natural wine scene, having gotten started nearly 20 years ago and maturing into one of the most stripped-back winemakers in the region. Claus crafts pure, delicious, ever-lightening red and white wines: this one, 'Kalkundkiesel' rouge, is biodynamically farmed Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch grown on chalk ('kalk') and gravel ('kiesel'). It's a darkly fruited but light-bodied red, expressing the cool qualities of the Lake Neudsiedl just a few kilometers off, as well as the finesse of the winemaker's touch.
