Château de Basset is located 50km southeast of Bordeaux proper, in the village of Mourens, between AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur. The 17th-century farmstead is nestled deep in the countryside, built out of vast blocks of limestone. This is an old-fashioned country wine from the region, evenly split between the famous Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes of the region, and will serve any number of heartier main courses well, without crushing the palate with fake tannins and too much oak.
