Cal Cols is made by a couple in the Penedes who were marching to the beat of their own drum before the natural wine movement came along. Surrounded by commercial Cava producers, they have about 7 hectares under vine and make a living selling their organic fruit, almonds, and produce at local farmers markets. 'Mil Deu' is Ull de Llbre, aka Tempranillo, planted in the 1990s. Complex and earthy with sage, pine, and mesquite notes, it's got great concentration and ripeness but doesn't feel heavy. Textural, unique, and a great wine to pair with fatty pork and beef dishes.
