For those beginners to the category of white vermouth or ‘vermouth blanc,’ there’s usually only two easy-to-find choices: Martini bianco, the globally-recognized industrial vermouth, and then the historical house of Dolin. The style actually originates in the Savoie, in the French alpine region near the village of Chambéry, and as such, this bottling from the much smaller, more artisanal house of Comoz has a clearly alpine note: gentian, notes of wildflowers and pine, rootsy and floral. It’s a touch rounder and a bit sweet, true to the style, but never overwhelms with a cloying quality. Very aprés-ski.
