Louisiane Remy and César Vega are the couple behind Barbichette, one of upstate New York’s more interesting wine projects to emerge in recent years. They’ve only got a few vintages behind them, and don’t own/farm any vineyards personally, but their touch in the cellar and commitment to natural winemaking in a region that usually rejects it outright are both worth noting. This cuvée, ‘Tête Bêche,’ is 100% Cabernet Franc from Seneca Lake - it is lifted, pleasantly leafy, with red-blackish fruit and a nice sensation of cold soil. We are so excited to see more wines like this from our home state, and we’re looking forward to seeing where Barbichette goes in the years to come.
